A 99-year-old woman was arrested recently in Nijmegen, Netherlands. The Netherlands police force that performed the arrest posted pictures up on Facebook of her in handcuffs as well as in a jail cell. However upon closer inspection of the picture, we can see that the woman isn’t upset about being arrested, but rather very happy. Certainly not the reaction you would expect of someone being arrested with their mugshot on Facebook!
Well it turns out that she wasn’t actually a criminal, but instead she was going through her bucket list and one of the items she had on her bucket list was that she wanted to be arrested and put into a jail before she died. A bucket list is a list of items that people wish to do before they pass on. For Annie, the sweet 99-year-old grandmother, it seemed like she wasn’t going to be able to check this off her bucket list at first and she was down to just a few entries left on her bucket list.
However her granddaughter decided to pull some strings and talked with the Dutch police about potentially helping her out with this dream. Thankfully, the Dutch police department were more than happy to oblige her. They delicately handcuffed her and put her in the prison cell for a short period of time. The entire time she was giggling and was as excited as a young child. You couldn’t even tell that she was almost 100 years old!
After they helped her out, they asked if she would also like to be featured on their Facebook page, which she gladly accepted. Not only was she going to be arrested, but now her memories will be forever immortalized on Facebook!
In the post the police officers explained the situations so that no one would be confused and they said that it was truly a day to remember, she had a strong impact on them from the short period of time they spent together. Of course for Annie, it will also be memorable as she finally lived out of one her dreams!
The Facebook post quickly went viral, amassing hundreds of comments. One user, Jaap van der Velde says,
You know you’re doing something right with your prison system if people want to experience it for fun.
Which is certainly true based on Annie’s face in those photos!
We wish Annie the best as she soon breaks through to 100 years and finishes off her incredible bucket list!
