Tabitha and her mother, Kim, were horseback riding around a local farm when suddenly, Tabitha’s horse bolted.
Kim lost sight of her daughter, she searched for her all over the farm but in vain. Luckily, she later found her, but Tabitha was not doing well, she was face down, unconscious, with bleeding ears. At the hospital, Tabitha was diagnosed with a fractured skull and a swollen, bleeding brain. She was in a coma. Her husband, Jacob, and their four sons were horrified. Tabitha’s sudden accident was a big blow to the whole family.
Her husband, Jacob was very distressed, he could not even have a normal conversation with his wife, as she was not in a position to talk back. It was a trying time for him and the rest of the family. Her husband and four sons missed her a lot when she was hospitalized.
“When you can’t talk to her and she can’t talk to you or, she’s unconscious — it was a scary moment,” Jacob told CBN.
Neurosurgeon Dr. Arun Jacob, who treated Tabitha, noted her brain was swelling too fast.
Tabitha was in a critical state, if the doctors didn’t remove a part of her skull immediately, she would die. Fortunately, she survived the surgery, but the doctor warned that she could be mentally or physically impaired. Her family was devastated and saddened by her dire condition. Her beloved husband, Jacob was afraid that his dear wife could hardly recognize him or their four children, he didn’t mind if she were in a wheelchair or not, as long as she could tell who they were.
“My biggest fear in the whole thing was that she just wouldn’t recognize me or our boys. I wasn’t worried really about her, she was in a wheelchair or anything like that, I just wanted her to know who we were,” Jacob said.
The doctors were shocked on seeing how fast Tabitha was responding to the medicine she was given. She appeared to be recovering in ways that even her doctors did not expect. She was taken off a ventilator and even spoke for the first time since the accident.
“She looked over at her husband, and she said, ‘Don’t ever let them do that to me again,’” Kim recalled.
Not only was Tabitha awake and speaking again, she still had her sense of humor. Doctors would come in to ask Tabitha if she recognized friends and family, and she always did. She knew everyone by their face and name, despite the fact that her brain had been seriously injured in the accident.
“I was like, ‘If y’all ask me one more time who somebody is, I think I’m going to come off the bed! I know who everybody is!’” Tabitha recalled.
After only nine days, Tabitha was able to go home, nearly recovered. She could comfortably walk on her own, climb stairs, and hold full conversations.
Her doctors believed that it was a miracle for her to get back on her feet so soon, they had never witnessed such a rare case with any of their patients.
“It’s really gratifying for people like us when we see things like that because it’s not happening every day,” Dr. Arun Jacob said. “I think she had a miraculous recovery.”
God works in mysterious ways, He even changes doctors reports, no matter how they might look, nothing is too big for Him. Tabitha’s quick recovery can only be attributed to the mercy, grace, and goodness of the Lord. We give him the glory for healing this young mother of four.
