From childhood, a girl is always dreamed the day of her wedding. She wants the day to be perfect. Her makeup, wedding gown, hair, food, guests, place, and decoration everything has to be just like she wants. She can demand anything after all it’s her big day.
Oct.14 was Mikayla Wronten’s big day. This day she has become Mrs. Dakota Wroten. Everyone was there to celebrate this biggest event of their life. Mikayla was looking radiant, the groom was shining. The weather was also on there side, just like a picture perfect day.
Invites has come to bless the couple and make the wedding day complete. Everything was there except only one thing, Mikayla’s father. He was a marine veteran and probation officer who died in the line of duty. This incident took place in May 22, 2007. The father, David Poling was Gallipolis Municipal Court probation officer that time. He tried to stop a man on the city street who just fled. The 22 year suspect ran to the Ohio River nearby and jumped from a 15 foot high bank. Poling followed him and jumped too into the water.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t make it back to the surface. Authorities found this 32 year old officer’s body in the next morning. We lost a responsible officer at a very young age.
Mikayla was only a 9 year old girl then. She remembered the day when her daddy was gone forever. She said, “I remember Mom telling us, sitting us down and told us that he wasn’t with us anymore, and it was really one of those things like, ‘Dad’s not gone, he’s just gone for the night. And I think it was a couple weeks later that it actually set in that he was gone and he wasn’t coming back.”
In these past years, the family has missed David’s presence in every single day. It was really hard, especially for the kids. Mikayla is 19 year old bride now. When the wedding day arrived, her father was not there to walk her down the aisle or to dance in the father daughter moment. She carried a burlap wrapped bouquet with a medallion that says “Walk with me today, Daddy.”
This was really a heart touching moment. What she didn’t know then, her father’s colleagues has made a surprise plan for her wedding day. They want to ensure her father’s presence with their presence. When the traditional father-daughter dance time came, a steady stream of uniformed officers began to file in.
She was really surprised and didn’t expect this coming. “The first cop walked out. He was a state trooper, and I just lost it. Everyone was in uniform, and I was just like, ‘Oh, my gosh,’ I fell into his chest and lost it.”
Sheriff Matt Champlin explained to WSAZ that they did a bunch of scheming behind Mikayla’s back. They all wanted to give her something special on her big day. Each of them carried a little piece of her father with their presence. This is the most precious gift of the wedding day. It was a priceless memory that lasts for a lifetime.
The bride said, “Even though I do have a great step dad now in my life, he wasn’t there you know. My dad wasn’t there to dance with me, and it was something that was heart touching for me, and I remember just looking around and talking it all in.”
Not only she, her husband, Dakota also touched by this display, along with all the guests. He said, “I saw that man impact more people in life and death than most ever will in an entire lifetime, and that’s kind of my goal, to affect someone the way he did me.”
This touching video has made everyone emotional. More than thousands of people commented on the post. Words cannot express such a heartwarming gesture! God bless these officers for stepping in and helping to make her special day even more special. Mikayla’s dad must be proud, wherever he is.
